Since humble beginnings in 1973, Playgroup Queensland has evolved to become the Playgroup specialists, operating in over 1,000 Playgroups State wide and engaging with more than 12,000 families within the community every year.
Celebrating 40 years in 2013, Playgroup Queensland was founded in Cairns in Far North Queensland with little more than a handful of Mothers and their small children and a need to connect, engage and share in the early stages of motherhood.
Playgroup Queensland embraces an interactive Playgroup format to encourage parent-led interaction with children and to empower parents as their child’s first teacher. Although the organisation has evolved since its inception to include a vast array of programs, the organisation still prides itself on its core and founding business; Community Playgroups. As the social and economic climate evolves, so does Playgroup, and with these developments comes a wider reach being obtained, welcoming not only mothers, but carers, grandparents and dads to enjoy the benefits of Playgroup.
Commonwealth and State Government funding has enabled Playgroup Queensland to continue to develop and deliver many initiatives across the State. This support has allowed the organisation to not only meet mainstream community needs but also to be proactive in providing programs and services to families and communities with high or complex needs.
Playgroup Queensland is proud to offer a selection of services for families. These programs are specifically targeted towards families experiencing adversity, grandparents, indigenous, and culturally and linguistically diverse communities in remote, rural and metropolitan areas.
Playgroup Queensland is the trusted provider of Playgroup services across the State. We work tirelessly to ensure that all families are able to access an affordable, quality play experience.
Playgroup Queensland is a non for profit and registered charity with the ACNC.
