Playgroup Queensland is governed by a skills-based Board of Directors who bring professional expertise in a number of areas including business, finance, human resource management, legal and technology, as well as the emerging industry of social enterprise.

The Board leads the strategic direction of the organisation and takes responsibility for the organisation’s compliance and reporting to governing bodies such as the Office of Fair Trading, the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

The Board of Directors are selected by independent nominations and elected by membership at the Annual General Meeting. Interim vacancies are filled through expressions of interest.

 

Gloria Sherlock, Chair

Gloria’s professional career spans over 20 years in a variety of roles including accountant, business analyst, e-risk consultant and regional administration manager. At an executive level, Gloria’s key responsibilities have included project management, system implementations, auditing and governance, policies and procedures, change management, training and administration.  Amongst her qualifications is a Certificate in Governance and Risk from the Governance Institute of Australia.

Gloria has long-standing community involvement including being former President of the Young Christian Workers group before being appointed to Playgroup Queensland’s Board as a director. Gloria held the Vice Chair position before commencing the role of Chair of the Board in 2013. During this time Gloria has been the primary contact person for two local Playgroups, where she continues to take her boys while also assisting her local community.

Gloria feels privileged to be part of such a dynamic charitable organisation that connects children, families and communities through play.

 

 

Felicity Donaldson, Vice Chair

Felicity has worked as a lawyer since 2001, initially in private practice and more recently in an in-house capacity. She has extensive experience in litigation, insurance and contract law.  She also has a Certificate in Governance from the Governance Institute of Australia.

Felicity was appointed to the Board in 2008 and became Vice Chair in 2013. As well as being the primary contact person for her local Playgroup for one year, Felicity served on the Parent Management Committee of a community kindergarten.

Felicity attended Playgroups as a child and takes her own children to a community playgroup. She appreciates the sense of community and connections both children and parents can get from a Playgroup. Felicity is dedicated to promoting Playgroups as a positive, safe and enriching environment for children and their carers.

 

 


Christine Chew, Director

Christine was appointed to the Playgroup Queensland Board in 2014. She has been a director of Playgroup Victoria since 2009, and a Member of their Nominations and Risk and Audit committees.

She has experience in financial controlling, management and cost accounting in the food manufacturing industry, food and beverage and hospitality industries and in the not-for-profit sector.

She is a Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) and is a member of CPA Australia. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Business (Professional Accounting) from Victoria University. She also has a Certificate in Governance and Risk from the Governance Institute of Australia.

She is a mother of four and passionately believes in play-based learning and the beneficial developmental outcomes of playgroups to children, families and communities.

 

Jane Won, Director

Jane Won is highly qualified marketing and communications strategist with over 20 years’ experience in corporate brand and marketing, corporate communications, stakeholder and community engagement, and media relations.

During her career, she has held senior leadership roles with the state government, the engineering and construction industry, as well as the national media.

Jane has significant stakeholder management experience working with a range of external stakeholders including industry, community and not-for-profit organisations, having worked on the community engagement and communications aspects of many major infrastructure projects across Australia and overseas.

An experienced marketing and communications manager, Jane has negotiated and managed multiple contracts for community benefit with Local and State Government agencies, not-for-profit organisations, publicly listed and private companies, national and international suppliers.

Jane holds the Graduate Diploma Company Directors, Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), and is a member of the International Association of Public Practitioners (IPA2). 

As a parent herself, Jane is a strong advocate for child play support for all types of traditional and non-traditional carers i.e. working mothers, stay-at-home fathers, grandparents, nannies and other family members.

 

Janice ElsleyJanice Elsley, Director

Janice Elsley, brings broad experience in shaping teams to meet strategic business objectives. Janice has built a reputation over the past 14 years’ for creating teams and establishing environments that make strategic goals a reality. Drawing upon qualifications in psychology, human resources and law, Janice has worked in both the public and private sectors and most recently as the Head of People, Performance and Culture.

As a certified CAHRI member of the Australian Human Resources Institute, she prides herself on taking a holistic approach to balance the needs of the business and individuals to foster peak performance. Janice has a proven track record across all aspects of Human Resources from change management, industrial relations, remuneration and rewards, leadership coaching, health and safety and employee wellbeing programs. Janice is responsible for leading the development and implementation of proactive, contemporary human resources and organisational development programs, operational support and consultancy to the Board of Directors, CEO, Executive team and employees of Brisbane Marketing.

 

 

 

Simon MooreSimon Moore, Director

Simon Moore is a not-for-profit specialist with over 15 years’ experience in the not for profit and primary health care sectors, over 13 years in membership organisations, and seven years as a part of executive leadership teams. His governance experience spans six years in the not-for-profit health sector with nearly 5 years as Company Secretary of a large charity.

Simon has supported change and organisational transition at Board and operational levels. Simon’s experience includes: establishing new entities and governance structures; membership engagement and facilitating constitutional change; transfer of staff, Intellectual Property, and assets; novation and assignment of federal government funding contracts, subcontracts, leases, and supplier agreements; and developing plans and timelines to wind down redundant entities.

Simon has significant stakeholder management experience working with engaged and disengaged members, and interested non-members to understand, accept and support change at constitutional, contractual and organisational levels.

With extensive experience in risk management, Simon led the development and implementation of an integrated enterprise wide risk management system aligned to Australian Standards ISO 31000 Risk Management, including the redevelopment of business continuity plans.

Simon owns a corporate governance consultancy firm specialising in the not-for-profit sector, and is a director of a small not-for-profit poverty relief charity working through Queensland schools.

He holds the Graduate Diploma Applied Corporate Governance from Governance Institute Australia (formerly Chartered Secretaries Australia), and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
